We are starting to read Tall Tails: Wingin' It with the Wright Brothers by Dona Smith. Students are completing various activities before, during, and after reading. Some of the activites they are doing are ones they thought of while others come from a list of 10 activities to do with novels. The activities students are choosing from is listed under the first comment.

Activites for Novels:
1. Create an illustration for one scene and write a caption for it.
2. Write a paragraph about a personal connection you have to something in this story.
3. Think about what clothing a character in this story would like to wear. Find pictures in magazines and make a collage to represent that character.
4. Create a comic strip about something in the story that was especially funny, sad, or action-filled.
5. Write a poem about the the story or a character in the story and illustrate it.
6. Pretend you are the author and describe the part of the story that was the most fun or the most difficult to write.
7. Choose one character and explain why you would or would not like to have him or her as a friend.
8. Find a song that relates to your novel. Write out the lyrics and an explanation of how the song and the story relate.
9. Pretend you are a character in the novel and describe what you think of the other characters in the story. Make sure to include why you feel that way!
10. Draw a color map of where a major part of the story takes place. Label the landmarks and points of interest.
I like this book so far because the dog, Angus gets a diary and she writes in it and its owner knows about it and they can't tell anyone!
